Kōan — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

The short version: Kōan does not capitalize on your data. There are no ads, no accounts, no sign-in, no trackers, and nothing is ever sold or shared. The app sends only what it needs to place your flowers in the world ranking. What follows is the honest, detailed version.

Who this is

Kōan is a one-person operation by Rich (rich.gg), publisher of the Android application Kōan (package gg.rich.me.koan). For any question about this policy or your data, write to rich@rich.gg.

What the app accesses

Kōan requests only Internet access and the ability to check your network connection. It uses no location, camera, microphone, contacts, storage, or advertising permissions.

What is collected, and when

Kōan works fully offline. Information leaves your device only when the ranking is synchronised — that is, when your finished flower is sent to the garden and the world ranking is downloaded. When that happens, the following is sent to Kōan's server:

your device's Android ID (a per-installation identifier provided by the operating system);
the flower you created — its petals, colours and score;
the optional five-letter name you may give a flower;
a timestamp for the entry.

Your scores are also stored locally on your device so the app can show your personal high score.

Why it is collected

This information exists for one purpose: to build the global ranking of flowers (ordered by height, not by player), and to let you recognise your own tallest flower within that ranking. The Android ID is what ties a flower back to the device that grew it.

What is not collected

Kōan does not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, precise or coarse location, contacts, or any advertising identifier. There is no account and no login. There are no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app. Nothing is sold, rented, or shared with third parties.

Where it is stored

Synchronised entries are kept on a private server operated for rich.gg (hosted in Switzerland). They are used only to serve the in-app ranking.

Children

Kōan is a calm, meditative experience suitable for a general audience. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Keeping or deleting your data

Because entries are tied to your Android ID rather than to a personal account, you can ask for them to be removed at any time. Email rich@rich.gg and your device's data (its Android ID and associated flowers) will be deleted from the server. Uninstalling the app removes the scores stored locally on your device.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with an updated date above.
